When Travis Touchdown launches the Death Ball for what appears to be Serious Moonlight, the game DAMNED: Dark Knight seems to load instead. To uncover the writer’s puzzling identity, Birdie must come out of her shell…discovering that most confounding mystery of all may be her growing feelings for the elusive riddle that is Daniel. Serious Moonlight is a fictional unreleased Death Drive Mk II action role-playing game. The hotel’s charismatic young van driver shares the same nocturnal shift and patronizes the waterfront Moonlight Diner where she waits for the early morning ferry after work. not to mention an opportunistic gardener (Justin Long), things start to get seriously complicated. In her new job, Birdie hopes to blossom from introverted dreamer to brave pioneer, and gregarious Daniel Aoki volunteers to be her guide. Everything you need to know about Serious Moonlight. But her solitary world expands when she takes a job the summer before college, working the graveyard shift at a historic Seattle hotel. Raised in isolation and homeschooled by strict grandparents, she’s cultivated a whimsical fantasy life in which she plays the heroic detective and every stranger is a suspect. Mystery-book aficionado Birdie Lindberg has an overactive imagination.
#SERIOUS MOONLIGHT PROFESSIONAL#
She tries way too hard to reestablish her professional reputation and ultimately turns Serious Moonlight into a meaningless and annoying film destined for oblivion, right alongside her other recent efforts. After an awkward first encounter, Birdie and Daniel are forced to work together in a Seattle hotel where a famous author leads a mysterious and secluded life in this romantic contemporary novel from the author of Alex, Approximately. She’s onscreen most of the time and the majority of the emotional response rests on her character’s transition. Her performance is impossible to overlook because it spans the entire film. That leaves just one person with a big red ‘x’ on her head, Meg Ryan. While the circumstances are no excuse to leave a screenplay unpolished, their loyalty is honorable. Instead, her last piece fell into the hands of first time director Cheryl Hines and Shelly’s husband, producer Andy Ostroy, who were likely reluctant to make alterations. Of course I’m hesitant to put any blame on the late Adrienne Shelly’s screenwriting, but I am confident that if she were still here today, she’d have seen the problems and fixed them. Even when Long enters the picture putting the couple in real danger, you’re apathetic. Starring: Meg Ryan, Timothy Hutton, Justin Long, Kristen Bell. A few scenes reminiscing about their wedding day is not enough to make you believe that they ever had something worth saving.

All emotional engagement relies on the conversations between Louise and Ian. The premise and plot twist could have been fun, but underdeveloped characters kill the movie. I get this is where the humor is supposed to come in, but nothing is remotely funny, and when the shock of Ryan’s madness wears off, banter between Louise and Ian just becomes boring. Ryan’s overacting strips Louise of her humanity, making her come across as a deranged lunatic. Not knife-wielding freaky, but like recently-escaped-from-the-asylum freaky. Okay, it sounds ridiculous, but the premise has potential until a wild-eyed Ryan takes Serious Moonlight from a passionate romance to pure horror. What isn’t so natural is that she proceeds to duct tape him to a chair to force him to stay and work things out. He explains to Louise he’s fallen out of love with her and, naturally, she doesn’t take it very well. Louise arrives early and catches him preparing for his guest. He’s arrived a day early to romance his new flame, Sarah (Kristen Bell), and just before Louise is scheduled to arrive, they plan to flee to Paris. A high-powered attorney duct tapes her adulterous husband to the toilet. Little does she know, Ian has some plans of his own.

Louise (Meg Ryan) has plans to spend a quiet weekend with her husband Ian (Timothy Hutton), at their vacation home in the country. The ghost of a Southern belle tries to teach a slacker to be a lady in this hilarious buddy comedy starring Melanie Lynskey, Judy Greer, Justin Long, and Ryan.
